The Perfect Cover Letter Structure
Stop writing generic letters. Use this 4-paragraph framework to double your response rate.
The End of the "To Whom It May Concern" Era
A cover letter is not a summary of your resume. It is a persuasive argument for why you are the solution to the company's current problem. Keep it under 400 words and follow this high-conversion structure.
Paragraph 1: The Hook
State the role you're applying for and lead with a major, relevant achievement. "I was thrilled to see the opening for [Role] at [Company], having recently led a project that [Specific Result]."
Paragraph 2: The Evidence
Directly address the job description's top 2 requirements. Explain how your specific past experiences make those requirements "easy" for you. Use data.
Paragraph 3: The "Why Us"
Mention a specific company value or project. Show you've done your research. Explain why you align with their mission, not just their paycheck.
Paragraph 4: The Call to Action
Reiterate enthusiasm and suggest a specific time for a call. "I look forward to discussing how my background in [Skill] can help [Company] achieve [Goal]."
